Today was a stomach flu kind of day. I wasn’t really up to making soap or really working for that matter. But I did get a lot accomplished by working on scanning in all my receipts and making sure they were on my spreadsheet to file my taxes next year. I would love to tell you about the awesome scanner I purchased last year. It is a Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 Scanner for PC and Mac (PA03656-B005) and I have to say it was one of the best purchases I have made. I did check out others and read lots of reviews and I really felt this was the best one. This model really works great and does the job well. There are no moving parts so if something jams you just open the lid and reset it there is nothing that can really cause trouble, and it hardly ever jams anyway. This little gem scans 25 pages per minute and they can be single, double &/or color. You can also pile all different size paper into the feeder and it will adjust itself to the size as it goes. Quite amazing! Not only does it scan, it will also file your document wherever you like on your computer as well as storing it on the cloud like in Evernote or whatever other program you choose. Scansnap will turn your document into a searchable PDF that makes it so easy to retrieve later.
If you think about it, there are not too many things that you actually need original copies of these days. You might need an original deed, birth certificate or other certificate but for most things a copy will do just fine. I read somewhere that the IRS, if you are audited, will even accept copies of receipts as well. So what are you waiting for? Dig out those boxes and start scanning!! Last year I scanned and filled up15 of those boxes that paper comes in, and let me tell you it is so..... freeing. I also know with every scan, followed by shredding I am one step closer to the goal of moving West! So today while I did not feel good it felt great to scan a bunch of receipts and I know come tax season I will be so happy that I took the time to do it today! Leave me a comment as to what you are doing to downsize or reduce your clutter. I am always looking for more ways to tame the beast!
