How to make your own Homemade Taco Seasoning

My friend is such a good and healthy eater. Something I am trying to be better at, but I must admit it that I don't try hard enough. I am not a salad eater and I like junk food way to much! She always brings in her lunch and when she brings in Taco Salad it always smells so good! I must have told her enough times how great it smelled that finally she got sick of hearing it and brought some in for me! It was wonderful! She makes her own taco seasoning and I have to tell you it is delicious. And not only that there is no hidden garbage or filler in it like the little packages of seasoning that I was buying had.

So here is her recipe for the best Taco Seasoning ever!

¾ Cup of Water
1 Medium Onion, chopped
2 Tablespoons Chili Powder
1 teaspoon Salt
½ teaspoon Cumin
1 Clove minced Garlic

Brown your hamburger. I try to buy the leanest package I can find. Add the above ingredients to the hamburger when it has browned. Stir it and let it simmer for 5- 10 minutes. I have found the longer I simmer it, the better it tastes! I buy the corn tortillas and place them one at a time over the gas burner on the stove for 10 seconds on each side, until they brown a little. This gives it a little crunch and brings out the flavor in the tortilla. Add any toppings you like such as shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, onions, taco sauce and of course the yummy ground beef with the taco seasoning. Enjoy.
